People in Italy Voted to Reduce the Parliamentarians by One-third

The citizens of Italy have voted to re-size of the Parliament by one third. The ballot happened along with the regional elections, and around 70% of the people supported the motion. The size of the Parliament, with MPs and Senators will be reduced to 600 from 945. Foreign Minister Luigi Di Maio claimed the result as 'historic' and said, "We can have a normal parliament, with fewer privileges and seats."

Greece to Construct New Migrant Centre in Lesbos After Moria Burns Down

Greek PM Kyriakos Mitsotakis announced the construction of a new and 'permanent migrant centre' in Lesbos. The decision came after the overpopulated camp in Moria caught fire last week, leaving more than 12,000 people without shelter. While the migrants are seeking an opportunity to settle in other European Union countries, the people of Lesbos are also resisting the 'permanent migrant center' saying it will overcrowd the small island.

The Ministry of External Affairs on September 3 issued a press release stating, Indian diplomat Dr. Neena Malhotra has been appointed as India's next ambassador to Italy. Dr. Malhotra is currently serving as an Additional Secretary in the ministry and belongs to 1992-batch Indian Foreign Service (IFS) officer. Reportedly, Dr. Malhotra will take over her new responsibility very soon.

Italy’s Valley Evacuated Over Fears of Mont Blanc Glacier Collapse

Around 75 people have been evacuated from Italy’s Alpine valley amid fears that the Planpincieux glacier in the Mont Blanc range could collapse due to the summer heat. A local environmental expert has warned that the glacier is melting due to the global warming and could fall "at any time". It is currently under observation with aerial photography and radar; also, the roads leading to the area have been closed.
