Mullaperiyar Dam Issue Nears End; SC To Pronounce Order On April 8

The Mullaperiyar Dam issue is possibly coming to an end, as the Supreme Court will pronounce the order on the matter on April 8. The long-standing dispute between Tamil Nadu and Kerala will be concluded by a bench led by Justice AM Khanwilkar. The court however, stated that any decision taken by the Supervisory Committee will be final. Also, chief secretaries and technical experts will be involved in the settlement.

Kerala To Approach SC After TN Opens Mullaperiyer Dam Without Alert

Kerala government decided to approach the Supreme Court over the opening of shutters of Mullaperiyar reservoir on the night of December 6 by Tamil Nadu without warning. "Nine shutters were opened without giving the prior notice to Kerala, as a result, water has entered into the houses of people," said Roshi Augustine, Water resources minister. Reportedly, Kerala wants Tamil Nadu to release water in day time after informing Kerala.

Mullaperiyar Dam Shutters Lifted, Red-Alert in Idukki: Kerala

Mullaperiyar dam in Kerala, which is administered by Tamil Nadu, had its shutters raised on October 29 since the reservoir's water level had exceeded 138 feet. A total of 1,079 people from 350 households have been relocated as a result of the two-foot high flood. The government also issued a red warning in Idukki reservoir in light of the reopening of Mullaperiyar dam and forecasted rainfall in the catchment areas.
