Assam Police Rescue 34 Cattle Heads From Smugglers
In Assam’s Nagaon district, the police foiled a smuggling attempt, and rescued 34 cattle heads from a bus, on October 1. This has come after the police received intel about the cattle smuggling near Kaliabor area, following which a checking was conducted. The driver and others fled the spot after seeing the police, and the police were able to rescue the cattle.

Police Arrest 4 Persons & Seize Fake Currency Machines: Assam
In two separate operations, the Assam police have arrested four persons and seized two fake currency making machines, informed police on September 9. The arrests were made in Nagaon and Hojai districts. The arrested persons include Jalal Uddin (35), Vanlalruati (42) and Zoramchhani (40) from Nagaon. And from Hojai, Abdul Jalil was arrested. Various fake currencies were also seized. Further details are awaited.

People affected by the flood situation in Assam's Nagaon, were seen taking shelters on embankments and highways. The condition in Nagaon continues to stay grim, with more than 5.03 lakh people still affected. A total of 45.35 lakh people have been affected in Assam due to the floods. About 10 fatalities were reported in the last 24 hours, taking the total number of casualties to 117, on June 25.

Assam Floods: 2 Police Officers Washed Away In Waters In Nagaon District
The flood situation in Assam continues to stay grim as two police personnel were washed away in flood waters in Central Assam's Nagaon district, on June 19. The incident occurred in Kanpur area, when a team of police officers went to investigate a case. After the officers were washed away, the body of the constable was recovered. Meanwhile, the officer-in-charge is still missing, and the search is underway.

In Assam's Nagaon, Bijay Konwar (22) was killed after being trampled by a wild elephant, said police, on June 4. The incident occurred in Amsoi, where Konwar went to a nearby forest to graze his cattle. After the attack, locals rushed to the spot and recovered his body. Konwar's body has been sent for post-mortem, and the forest department has intensified patrolling in the area.

Elephant Calf's Carcass Found By Locals In Assam's Nagaon
In Assam's Nagaon district, an elephant calf's carcass was found by locals. Reportedly, the body of the elephant was discovered by locals at a pond under the Bamuni reserve forest area near Hatikhuli on May 31. According to a forest official, a herd of wild elephants come to the pond to quench their thirst. "We suspect that the elephant calf was sick," said the forest officer.

Assam Flood: 6 More Deaths Reported, 7.2 Lakh Affected Across 22 Districts
The grim situation in Assam is continuing to deteriorate due to the current flood situation. In the latest development, six more persons lost their lives including two children, taking the death toll to 24. As of May 23, 7.2 lakh persons have been affected across 22 districts. Nagaon is the worst hit district with 3.46 lakh people affected. Followed by Cachar (at least 2.29 lakh people) and Hojai (58,300 people).

Administration Demolishes 5 Houses After Batadrava Police Station Was Set On Fire: Assam
Residences of five families that were allegedly involved in setting fire to a police station, have been demolished by the Assam's Nagaon administration, on May 22. The demolition has come after a mob allegedly set fire to Batadrava police station after Safiqul Islam was killed in police custody. Reportedly, two police personnel was injured in the mob attack. Furthermore, officer in charge of the station during Islam's death is suspended.

In Assam's Dhemaji district, parents were seen taking their children to a primary school in boat, since the area has been flooded. A teacher of the school stated that there are about 29 students in the school, and due to the flood situation, some are not able to turn up. Reportedly, 2.88 lakh people have been affected in Nagaon, 1.22 lakh in Cachar and 1.07 lakh in Hojai.

Following the decades-old tradition, the Khatu Shyam Ji Nishan Yatra began in Assam's Nagaon, ahead of Holi. The yatra lasts for three to four days and 1500 devotees participate. Furthermore, from the last two years due to COVID-19, the yatra had not taken place as it is open this year padyatra will also take place. "People from all age groups will participate in this Rath Yatra," said a devotee.
