In order to contain the second wave of COVID-19, the Puducherry government on May 29 announced the extension of the ongoing lockdown till June 7. However, the government has increased the ambit of essential services in the UT, providing exemption to plumbers, electricians, mechanics and alike self-employed people. Puducherry: N Rangasamy Sworn In As Chief Minister For Fourth Time
All India NR Congress founder N Rangasamy on May 7 took oath as Puducherry Chief Minister at Raj Nivas in the presence of Lieutenant governor Tamilisai Soundararajan. At the recent concluded polls, while the AINRC won 10 seats, it's ally, BJP won six of the nine seats it contested. Interestingly as independents won record six seats, the Congress settled with just two and AIADMK failed to open mark.

Aadhaar Data Breach Allegation On Puducherry BJP Credible: Madras HC
The Madras High Court on April 1 held that BJP’s Puducherry unit breached and misused Aadhaar data in its election campaign. Listening to a PIL, the HC confirmed that BJP sent campaign-related messages to only Aadhaar-linked mobile numbers. While the BJP’s Puducherry unit and UIDAI has denied using and lending numbers for political use, the court ordered the Aadhaar regulatory body to answer why the data breach was not avoided.

EC Reveals Poll Schedule For Bengal, Assam, TN, Kerala & Puducherry
For four poll-bound states and one Union Territory, the Election Commission of India on February 26 announced the schedule. While Kerala, Tamil Nadu, and Puducherry will have a single-phase election on April 6, Assam will have a three-phase election from March 27 to April 6. Meanwhile, the elections in West Bengal will be held in eight phases from March 27 to April 29. The votes for all states will be counted on May 2.
