Maharashtra: Guatala Autramghat Sanctuary Spots 1st Tiger Since 1940
Maharashtra's Guatala Autramghat Wildlife Sanctuary officials have spotted a tiger in the sanctuary after nearly eight decades of oblivion. Believed to have come from Yavatmal’s Tipeshwar Sanctuary, the tiger was spotted during March 11-15. It is expected to have travelled around 330km from Aurangabad in search of a prey. 77 People Arrested Under Poaching Case, Reveals MP Forest Minister
Nearly 93 tigers have died in the ‘Tiger state of India’ Madhya Pradesh including 25 due to poaching. Providing January 2018-January 2021 data, the state forest Minister Vijay Shah on March 1 revealed that 77 people were arrested for poaching. Shah also mentioned other big cats death due to natural calamities, diseases and mutual conflicts. UNDP Awards Pilibhit Tiger Reserve For Doubling Tiger Population
For doubling the count of tigers, Uttar Pradesh's Pilibhit Tiger Reserve (PTR) and the State Forest department have won their first international award TX2, which was presented by the UN Development Program. Reportedly, the tiger count in reserve rose to 65 in 2018 from its 2014 mark of 25 tigers. While none of Indian Tiger Reserves neared the feat, PTR achieved it in 4 years ahead of the 10-year target.
