Muralitharan: Is It My Mistake To Have Born As Sri Lankan Tamil?

After several Tamil nationalists and fans stood against the production of movie '800', Sri Lankan cricketer Muttiah Muralitharan released an explanatory statement. Muralitharan questioned the agitators that whether it was his mistake to have born as a Sri Lankan Tamil. He mentioned that he initially refused to accept the film due to the political oppositions but later thought that the world must know what he went through to achieve in war-ridden Sri Lanka. He clarified that his opinions were twisted and misrepresented to the public by certain politicians and media houses. Muralitharan, in the letter, asserted that he did not support the Sri Lankan civil war in 2009, and was always against the killing of innocent people in the country. He further added that he helped the Lankan Tamils during and after the civil war. Earlier, the makers of '800' had clarified that there is nothing in the movie that could hurt the Tamil people's sentiments.
