1984 Anti-Sikh Riots: 5 Persons Arrested For Burning Down Building Which Charred 3 Persons To Death

In connection to the 1984 anti-Sikh riots in Kanpur, five more persons have been arrested by a Special Investigation Team (SIT) of the Uttar Pradesh police, on June 23. The 1984 anti-Sikh riots claimed the lives of 127 people. The recently arrested accused were allegedly responsible for burning down a house which charred three people to death. The accused have now been sent to a 14-day judicial custody.

SC Refuses Bail To 1984 Anti-Sikh Riot convict; Requests CBI To Cross-Check

The Supreme Court passes an order to CBI in order to crosscheck Sajjan Kumar, a 1984 anti-Sikh riot convict's vigor after he applied for interim bail. However, Kumar's previous bail was rejected on Sep 4, 2020, stating that he was sentenced under a high-priority criminal case. Moreover, September 6, is the deadline to verify Kumar's health as instructed by the bench of Justices.
