Students Taken Covaxin Jab Skeptical About Studying Abroad

Students who applied abroad and administered with Bharat Biotech’s Covaxin are skeptical about whether they will be eligible for air travel to the UK or the US. The dilemma is due to Covaxin’s pending approval before the WHO. Students said, had they knew about the issue they would have waited for Pfizer or Johnson & Johnson. Counsellor Alok Bansal also raised the Covishield’s 90-day gap policy between two doses.

India To Study Efficacy Of Single Covishield Shot, Mixing Of Vaccines

The Centre is looking to form new strategies to ramp up the vaccination process as it has allowed the studies wherein mixing of vaccines and the potency of single dose of Covishield are being tested. However, mixing of different vaccines will be done only after an in-depth research. Besides, a new App will be linked to CoWin so that vaccinated individuals can report in case of any side-effect.

B'luru Doctor Busted For Stealing Vaccine From PHC And Using Illegally

The Bengaluru police on May 20 arrested a doctor at a Public Health Centre in Manjunathnagar for vaccinating people at her associate’s house in Bengaluru. The accused identified as Dr Pushpita (25) a medical officer with her associate Prema (34) were reportedly charging Rs 500 for one Covishield vaccine shot. The police said that “The doctor used to get the vials from the PHC in a frozen vial carrier.”

India Receives Its First COVID-19 Emergency Supplies From US

Among the several consignments, India received its first supply of COVID-19 emergency aid from the US on April 30 in two military aircrafts. Reportedly, the batch consists stock of 36 millipore filters in order to manufacture five lakh doses of Covishield vaccines. Besides, 17 oxygen generators plants have been received. However, the next consignment is supposed to arrive on May 3 along with supplies from the Gulf countries.

Vaccine Maker SII's CEO Adar Poonawalla Given Y-Security Amid Threats

Vaccine-maker Serum Institute of India (SII)'s CEO Adar Poonawalla has been granted Y-category security by the Home Ministry. Based on the threat perception report and to be handled by the CRPF, the security cover will include 11 personnel comprising CRPF commandos and policemen. Doses given 2-3 months apart are more effective, says SII's CEO Adar Poonawalla

CEO of Serum Institute of India, Adar Poonawalla said if a gap of 2-3 months is kept between the first and second dose then the efficacy of Covishield increases to up to 90%. And if the gap is increased for other vaccines it will yield similar results. In March, India decided to increase the interval between the two shots to 8 weeks on the recommendation by the National Expert Group.

Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal, His Parents Receive COVID-19 Vaccine Shot

Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal on March 4 received his first shot of COVID-19 vaccine. Kejriwal's parents - Govind Ram Kejriwal and Gita Devi - were also inoculated along with him. After taking the jab, Kejriwal said, "We don't have any problems (after vaccination)." Urging everyone to take the vaccine, the Delhi CM has assured to increase the vaccination centres in the state "if needed". He was administered indigenously developed 'Covishield'.

Pune SII Fire: CEO Adar Poonawalla Estimates Rs 1,000 Cr Loss

A day after the fire outbreak at its Pune-based plant, the Serum Institute of India CEO Adar Poonawalla has admitted a financial loss of Rs 1,000 crore. Adar said, "The fire has damaged machinery installed for rotavirus and BCG vaccine production." However, has assured that the production facility of COVID-19 vaccine - Covishield - has not been affected. Moreover, three to four floors of the SII facility were damaged.
