Kalamassery Bus Burning Case: 3 Accused Sent To Rigorous Imprisonment
In the 2005 Kalamassery bus bqurning case, three accused have been sentenced to rigorous imprisonment by a special NIA court in Kochi, on August 1. While two accused were sentenced to seven years rigorous imprisonment, one was sentenced to six years rigorous imprisonment. In the aforementioned case, a Tamil Nadu state government bus was set on fire in Kerala's Ernakulam, and the case was taken up by NIA in 2010.

Two-Storey Building Collapses In Kerala's Ernakulam; 13-Year-Old Boy Dies, Grandfather In ICU
In Kerala's Ernakulam district, a two-storey building collapsed in Keezhillam area, on July 29. Reportedly, seven members of a family where present inside the building during the collapse. Harinarayanan (13), who was asleep during the incident, died in his sleep. His grandfather Narayan Namboothri sustained injuries to his head, and has been admitted to ICU. Officials believe that the collapse was caused due to incessant rains.

Pastor Arrested For Alleged Involvement In Human Trafficking: Kerala
In Kerala's Ernakulam district, Jacob Varghese, a pastor of a Perumbavoor-based charitable trust, has been arrested for alleged involvement in human trafficking of minor girls. Varghese is a pastor of Karunya Charitable trust, and was sent to judicial custody. The arrest has come after a group of 12 minor girls were detained by Railway Protection Force (RPF) officials at Calicut railway station.

Actor-Producer Vijay Baby Interrogated For 5th Consecutive Day In Sexual Assault Case: Kerala
In Kerala's Ernakulam, actor-producer Vijay Babu appeared in the South Police Station for the fifth consecutive day, cooperating to the interrogation in a case of sexual assault filed against him. The Kerala High Court had granted him anticipatory bail, asking him to cooperate with the probe officials. Babu was also asked to refrain from tampering with the probe, and have interactions over social media.

Sexual Assault Case: Kerala Police Arrest Malayalam Actor Vijay Babu In Ernakulam
Malayalam actor and producer Vijay Babu has been arrested in a sexual assault case, on June 27. Kerala police made the arrest when Babu appeared before the Ernakulam Town South police station. Since Babu has already obtained an anticipatory bail from Kerala HC, he is expected to be released soon. Babu has been charged with a sexual assault case, and for revealing her identity on social media.

PC George Granted Bail In Hate Speech Case By Kerala HC
Former MLA PC George who was arrested over alleged hate speech and sent to judicial remand on May 26, has been granted bail by Kerala High Court, on May 27. Reportedly, the bail was granted considering his health issues and his status as former MLA. The bail however, has been granted on strict conditions, and George has been directed to fully adhere to the probe.

Kerala's Ernakulam Completes 1st Dose Of Vaccination To Be No 1
Kerala's Ernakulam district became the first district in the state to complete 100% COVID vaccination of its adult population, said Industries Minster P Rajeev on October 2. While sharing the achievement, Rajeev said, ''Today is a very proud occasion...The district has set an example for India.'' He also said we also made a target to complete the vaccination of the second dose of the vaccine within three months.

Kerala Teen Dies After Falling From 10th Floor While Exercising
Irine Joy, a resident of Santhi Thotekat Estate in Chittoor road near Kerala’s Ernakulam South fell from the 10 floor’s balcony while exercising along with her brother on August 5 at 9 AM. The 18-year-old girl fell on the ground through the car's rooftop. However, she could not survive. A case of unnatural death has been registered by the Ernakulam South police.

Kerala: V D Satheesan Appointed As A New Leader Of Opposition
After being elected for the fifth consecutive term in recently concluded Kerala assembly polls, Congress’ V D Satheesan was appointed as the new Leader of the Opposition on May 22. Replacing veteran Ramesh Chennithala, Satheesan will be the first to be appointed as opposition leader from Ernakulam district of Kerala. Earlier, the 56-year-old Paravur MLA Satheesan had also served as Kerala Congress’ vice-president and AICC secretary.
