Gujarat MLA Jignesh Mevani Convicted Of Unlawful Assembly Over 2017 Rally

Gujarat MLA Jignesh Mevani has been convicted of unlawful assembly over a 2017 rally. A magisterial court in Gujarat has convicted ten people, including MLA  Jignesh Mevani, for carrying out a rally in Mehsana back in 2017. The Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate, J A Parmar, noted, “it is not an offence to hold (a) rally but it is an offence to hold (a) rally without permission."

EOW Bhubaneswar Freezes Four Accounts In Connection With Illegal Digital Lending

The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) in Bhubaneswar has frozen four bank accounts, in connection with an illegal digital money-lending case. The EOB shared that it had received a string of complaints from the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) as well as several victims, regarding the illegal functioning of loan applications, which are not registered under the RBI Act. Three special EOW teams are currently investigating the matter.

2 Suspected Ukrainians Detained By Police In Assam

In Assam's Badarpur railway station, two foreigners, who are believed to be Ukrainian nationals, have been detailed by the police, on April 22. SC Issues Notice To EC Over "Irrational Freebies": Assembly Polls

Taking a serious note of freebies announced by political parties ahead of elections, the Supreme Court, issued a notice to the ECI. Reviewing a petition, on January 25, CJI NV Ramana asked the EC and Central Government to take a legal path, saying freebies budget goes beyond regular budget, and needs a legal action. The court also asked the EC to dismiss parties, which offers "irrational freebies" to woo voters.

China Constructs 'Illegal Bridge' Over Pangong Tso Lake, Reveals Satellite Images

A new Chinese bridge which was being constructed across the Pangong Lake, was fastened up during Winter, in Ladakh. The  315 metre-long bridge is being constructed near India’s claimed region, which has remained under the Chinese control for a decade. As per reports, the construction work began in September last year from the northern shores of the lake. Its completion is only a few metres away from the southern bank.

Bihar Police Arrested 3 People For Selling IMFL

Bihar Police arrested three people, including an MBBS student on November 23 for allegedly selling banned Indian-made Foreign Liquor (IMFL). Reportedly, 300 such bottles were recovered from their house by the police. The accused have been identified as Vikas Singh, his wife who is an MBBS student and their tenant. Raghav Dayal, SDPO Sardar said, "they have been arrested and sent to jail." However, further investigation is underway.

IT Act Still In Operation; SC Issues Notice To Stop Its Usage

The Supreme Court was shocked after knowing that people are still booked under Section 66A of the Information Technology Act, despite it being knocked down and termed as illegal six years ago. The apex court has issued notice to all the states, union territories, and registrar generals of all HCs for using the IT Act of 2000. Reportedly, even after being termed as unconstitutional, there were around 1,307 cases under it.

Punjab And Haryana High Court Terms Marrying First Cousin Illegal

In a response to a petition, the Punjab and Haryana High Court has pronounced that marriage between the first cousins would be illegal. The court was hearing the petition after an FIR was filed against a 21-year-old man who was in a live-in relationship with his minor cousin and wanted to marry her. Moreover, the state counsel argued that the live-in-relationship between the man and the girl was unethical since marriage was prohibited.
