Sri Lanka's Public Security Minister Sarath Weerasekara has announced the country's plans to ban burqas and almost 1000 Madrassas. NIOS To Introduce Gita, Ramayana In Curriculum Of 100 Madrassas
The National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS) is planning to introduce ancient Indian knowledge, Gita and Ramayana to 100 madrassas. Assam Govt Proposes Bill To Shut Down State-Run Madrassas
Despite objections from the opposition, Assam's minister Himanta Biswa Sarma proposed a bill on December 28 to shut-down all state-run madrassas. The bill stated that the madrassas would be converted to upper primary, high, and higher secondary schools. However, the professional roles and conditions of teaching and non-teaching staff would remain the same. Sarma said that they are "happy" to bring the "secular" move.

WB Govt Plans To Give Rs 10,000 For School Students To Buy Tabs
The West Bengal government has decided to transfer Rs 10,000 to the bank accounts of 9.5 lakh students of class 12 to buy smart devices for online learning. Earlier, the state government had decided to give smart tablets to students. However, the idea has been dropped since they could not procure numerous devices within a short period. CM Mamata Banerjee has assured the grant would be transferred within three weeks.
