Mahatma Gandhi's Great-Granddaughter Jailed In S Africa For Forgery
A Durban court in South Africa on June 7 awarded a seven-year imprisonment to Mahatma Gandhi's great-granddaughter in a forgery case. Ashish Lata Ramgovin had allegedly defrauded businessman SR Maharaj of 6.2 million rand on the promise of clearing import and Customs duties for an Indian shipment. Ramgovin was first sent into trial in 2015, but she was soon granted a bail for 50,000 rand.

PM Inaugurates Amrut Mahotsav In Gujarat; Weekly Events For Next 75 Weeks
The Prime Minister Narendra Modi on March 12 participated in the Amrut Mahotsav in Ahmedabad to mark and celebrate the 75th anniversary of India's independence. On this day the historic Dandi march, a 241-mile march from Sabarmati Ashram to Dandi was led by Mahatma Gandhi in 1930, Modi mentioned. Weekly events will be held for the next 75 weeks till August 15, 2022, Union Minister Prahlad Singh Patel stated.

Mahatma Gandhi's Statue Gifted By India Vandalised In US
The bronze statue of Mahatma Gandhi, gifted to the US by India, had been vandalized by miscreants. The 6 ft tall, 294 kg statue installed in a Northern California park was axed from its base while severing its head. Reportedly, the statue was installed fours years ago by the city of Davis amid protests. Since then, only the ‘Organisation of Minorities in India’ launched a campaign to remove the statue.
