Mumbai Airport Handles 1,30,374 Passengers In 24 Hours, Highest Since Pandemic

The Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) handled 1,30,374 passengers in 24 hours on September 17, making it the highest since the beginning of the pandemic. The growth in footfall is reportedly due to rising flight movements, newer destinations and an increase in airline’s capacity. Also, on September 17, CSMIA witnessed 839 total flight movements. BMC Starts Construction Process Of 2 Bridges In Maharashtra

The BMC has started the process of construction of two important bridges that were announced in the 2022 - 23 civic budget. Notably, work on Juhu Vile Parle Development (JVPD) bridge is expected to start within a month, whereas the other bridge proposed to decongest Western Express Highway (WEH) will take some time, confirmed BMC. For the bridge construction, the State Government is to release Rs 350 crore.

BMC Seizes 2000 Kg Banned Single Use Plastic In Mumbai

In an inspection operation, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) seized more than 2,000 kg of banned plastic in the last two-and-half months. With this, a fine of Rs16 lakh from the shops and dealers using banned and single-use plastic was collected. Notably, the civic body revived the drive against banning plastic on July 1, and planned to inspect malls, supermarkets and shops, in a phased manner.

FDA Cancels Manufacture Of Baby Powder By J&J In Mumbai Plant Over Quality Standards

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has cancelled manufacturing of baby powder by Johnson and Johnson (J&J)’s in Mumbai's Mulund plant on Thursday as samples were unable to meet the standard quality parameter.  The product may affect the health of the skin of the babies and has been recalled from the market. "For the safety of the public, we have cancelled the licence,” said an FDA official.

Fire Breaks Out At Cooper Hospital, No Casualty Reported

A massive fire broke out in Mumbai's Cooper Hospital, on September 15. According to the hospital authority, the fire broke out at the godown of the hospital, however, no casualties or injuries were reported. Moreover, the fire department confirmed dousing the fire and confirmed the situation at the hospital was under control. In addition, the cause of the fire is yet to be ascertain.

Cyrus Mistry Death Case: Mercedes Experts From Hong Kong Arrive At Mumbai To Inspect Car Crash

In the ongoing death case of Tata Sons chairman Cyrus Mistry, a team of Mercedes experts from Hong Kong has arrived at Mercedes showroom in Thane to inspect the controversial car crash. The team will submit a report to the Mercedes Benz Company, following the inspection. On September 4, Mistry along with three others, was travelling from Ahmedabad to Mumbai in car. The road accident left two dead.

Several Parts Of Mumbai Waterlogged Following Heavy Downpour: Maharashtra

Following heavy rainfall, several parts of the city of Mumbai have been waterlogged, as of September 13. The situation was at its very worst in Mumbai’s Simon area, with water levels extremely high, disturbing life. Meanwhile, Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an “yellow alert” to Mumbai, and adjourning places like Pune, Thane, Raigad and Phalgar. Since June 1 to August 12, over 120 persons have lost their lives.

60 Farmers Die By Suicide In Yavatmal In Last 43 Days: Maharashtra

Farmer suicides have increased in the state of Maharashtra, with over 60 cases of death having been reported in the last 43 days from Yavatmal area. The farmers reportedly took the extreme step after failing to repay debt, with the torrential rains having only made the situation worse. Moreover, over 205 cases of farmer suicides have been reported from the state, so far this year.

Lumpy Skin Virus: 43 Animals Dead, 21 Districts Affected In Maharashtra

Maharashtra State Animal Husbandry Department informed that as many as 43 animals have died of Lumpy Skin Virus, and 21 districts have been reportedly affected. The state has notably, started vaccinating cattle across the state. No effect on milk production and consumption has been reported yet. Reportedly, it’s the cows and buffaloes who have fallen victim to the virus. It is feared that the virus could be transmitted through milk.
