Families Of Nagaland Firing Victims Refuse Ex-gratia, Demands Repeal AFSPA

Families of victims who lost lives in the Nagaland Firing incident in Mon district refused to take compensation. The Oting Village Council, on December 12, issued a statement asking to repeal the Armed Forces Special Power Act (AFSPA) and action against 21st Para Commandos, who shot 14 civilians by mistake on December 4. The Nagaland government announced a compensation of over Rs 18 lakhs to the families.

Nagaland Tribal Body Announces 7-Day Mourning: Nagaland Firing Incident

Konyak Union, the tribal Body of Nagaland's Mon district, condemned the recent killing of 14 civilians in the State. The Apex body on December 7 also announced a 7-day bandh to mourn the killings of civilians, an unfortunate mistake of the State security forces. The body asked the forces to avoid patrolling here during the bandh and warned of violent incidents if they fail to abide by it.

Security Forces Open Fire At 'Civilians' In Nagaland; 6 Dead, 2 Injured

In a tragic incident, at least six civilians died and two suffered injuries after security forces allegedly opened fire on them suspecting them to be NSCN militants in Nagaland's Oting village of Mon district, on December 5. Nagaland Govt Announces Extension Of Lockdown Till June 30 

The Nagaland administration prolonged the state's lockdown till June 30. The govt has asked the district COVID task teams to work out relaxations, based on the circumstance in their areas. Nagaland went under lockdown on May 14, banning all activities to save critical services and commodities transit. However, the decision to extend the lockdown was taken at a state level review meeting.
