Serena Williams is set to take the full advantage of the open draw at Roland Garros. The golden opportunity arrived as two out of three world's top seeded players dropped out either due to unforeseen circumstances or injuries. Interestingly, Serena lost to both ace tennists in major finals in recent years. The eighth seeded American will face Romania's Mihaela Buzarnescu in the second round on June 2.

Naomi Osaka Quits French Open Mid-Tournament, Says She Needs Break
Japanese Tennis star Naomi Osaka on May 31 withdrew from the French Open 2021 tournament stating that she needs a break from the sport. This comes after Osaka was fined Rs 10 lakh for not attending the mandatory news conference following her victory over Romania's Maria Patricia Tig. Citing her mental health as well, the 23-year-old had compared such post-match conferences to "kicking people when they are down".

Japan's Naomi Osaka won her second Australian Open (AO) title by defeating US' Jennifer Brady 6-4, 6-3 on February 20. The victory came as Osaka's fourth grand-slam title win, with two US Open titles and an AO title in 2019. Moreover, the 22-year-old maintained her 100% record in Grand Slam finals and is on a 21-match unbeaten streak. Reportedly, Osaka now reigns AO with a 22-4 record and 14 straight Grand Slam match wins.

Japan's Tennis Player Naomi Osaka To Star In Manga Comic Book Series
Japanese tennis ace player Naomi Osaka is set to star as a cartoon character in a new manga comic book series. The three-time grand slam winner's new manga, titled "Unrivalled Naomi Tenkaichi", will be published in the Nakayosi magazine issue on December 28. "Growing up reading manga/watching anime was something that bonded me and my sister immensely so this is really exciting for both of us," tweeted Osaka.

French Open: Naomi Osaka Pulls Out Due to Hamstring Injury
US Open champion Naomi Osaka pulled back from the French Open, on September 18, after suffering from a hamstring injury. The third ranking star Osaka said, "My hamstring is still sore so I won't have enough time to prepare for the clay". Reportedly, the defending champion Ashleigh Barty also withdrew from the tournament. French Open is scheduled to start on September 27.

Naomi Osaka Wins US Open 2020 Title; First Asian to Win 3 Grand Slams
On September 13, Naomi Osaka won her second US Open title and third Grand Slam title after beating Victoria Azarenka with 1-6,6-3,6-3. The 22-year-old Japanese star came from a set down to defeat the Belarusian to win the title. "I didn't really enjoy that. It was a really tough match for me." Osaka said after her victory." With this, Osaka has now bagged the third position in the WTA rankings.
