SC Dismisses Plea Of Stay On 2nd Postmortem On TN Suicide Victim's Body

The Supreme Court dismissed a plea by the father of a student who died by suicide in Kallakurichi, Tamil Nadu. Victim's father filed a petition,  seeking to stay the second postmortem on the body, scheduled on July 19 as per the Madras HC's direction. CJI NV Ramana said,  "Sorry, the high court is already seized of the matter." Meanwhile, the Madras HC constituted a set of doctor's panels for postmortem.

Student Dies By Suicide In Kallakurichi, Security Tightened Outside Campass: Tamil Nadu

In Tamil Nadu's Kallakurichi, a 17-year-old class 12 student died by suicide in school hostel. Following which, the school corespondent Ravi Kumar, secretary Shanthi and principal Shiva Sankaran were arrested for allegedly failing to ensure safety within hostel premises. Furthermore, the death has caused an outrage, and protests have broken out near the school. Reportedly, the protestors also pelted stones and damaged police vans.

Tamil Nadu CM MK Stalin Discharged From Hospital After Contracting COVID-19; Casts Vote In Presidential Polls

Tamil Nadu CM MK Stalin who was admitted to hospital after he contracted COVID-19, has been discharged. Following his discharge, he arrived at the secretariat complex at around 10 am, and was the first to cast his vote in the complex. The presidential polls to elect the 15th president of India began on July 18, and votes counting of votes is scheduled to take place on July 21.

Former Tamil Nadu CM O Panneerselvam Hospitalised After Developing COVID Symptoms

Former Tamil Nadu CM O Panneerselvam has been admitted to hospital after he developed COVID-19 symptoms. He was admitted in the isolation unit on July 15, said MGM healthcare bulletin. Furthermore, his condition is stable, and is under observation by a clinical team. Meanwhile, CM MK Stalin wished Panneerselvam a speedy recovery. Notably, this has come days after Panneerselvam was expelled from AIADMK party.

In Tamil Nadu's Vellore, D Sathish Kumar (21) slit a 19-year-old nursing student's throat after his marriage proposal was rejected. Reportedly, the couple were in a relationship for three years, after which, the boy's family approached the girl's family with a marriage proposal. After the proposal was rejected, the agitated boy slit her throat near a bus stand. She was immediately admitted to a hospital, and is reportedly out of danger.

Chennai police apologised and deleted a Tweet objecting a user's post on "beef curry", on July 7. A user, by the name Abu Backer, whose profile describes him as the state coordinator of Naam Tamizhar Katchi, posted a photo which captioned "Maattu Kari", which translates to "Beef Curry". Chennai police's Twitter handle responded saying, "such posts are unnecessary here," which left several angered. Later the comment was deleted.

Unable To Bear Economic Crisis, 8 Sri Lankans Flee To India

Many Sri Lankans fleeing the crisis-hit island republic, arrived in India's Tamil Nadu, on July 5, confirmed the police.  Approximately eight persons, including children, belonging to two families, landed here, as couldn't handle the crisis in Sri Lanka. They travelled to India through waterways and were spotted by fishermen, who later informed the marine police. Furthermore, with this, so far 105 Sri Lankans arrived in India.
