Govt Approves 5G Trials For Telecos; Mentions No Chinese Tech Use
The Centre on May 4 gave a green light to telecom service providers (TSPs) to conduct 5G spectrum trials in the country. Rejecting Chinese telecom gear makers, the Telecom Department approved Ericsson, Nokia, Samsung, C-DOT and Reliance Jio’s indigenously developed technology to conduct trials. Reliance Jio Turns Top Bidder At 4G Spectrum Sale; Spends Rs 57K Cr
Reliance Jio has become the top bidder at the 2021 4G spectrum auction by acquiring the 488.35MHz band for Rs 57,122.65 crore. Becoming the largest holder in 2300 MHz and sub-GHz spectrum, Jio increased its spectrum footprint by 55%. Similarly, Airtel and Vodafone-Idea have acquired 355.45 MHz and 11.80 MHz respectively, worth Rs 18,698.75 crore and Rs 1,993.40 crore. However, participants didn't bid for 700 MHz and 2500 MHz.

5G Spectrum Auction: Reliance Jio Leads In Earnest Money Deposit
Reliance Jio has taken lead in earnest money deposit for the 5G spectrum auction scheduled from March 1. Investing Rs 10,000 crore EMD, Jio has been allocated the highest eligibility points (73,007) by the Telecom department. While Airtel deposited Rs 3,000 crore, Vodafone was allocated 6,153 points over its Rs 457 crore EMD. The 2,251.25 megahertz spectrum worth Rs 3.92 lakh crore auction will be in seven frequency bands.
