PM Boris Johnson's India Visit To Be Shortened Amid Rising COVID-19 Cases

British Prime Minister Boris Johnson will shorten his delayed visit to India on April 26, and limit his travel to Delhi as the COVID-19 cases in the country continue to rise. Johnson's visit will now be focused on government meetings and interaction with Indian business leaders. Besides, PM Narendra Modi's meeting with French Foreign Minister Jean Yves Le Drian has been canceled in order to deal with the COVID crisis.

PM Modi Invited To G7; UK PM Johnson Likely To Visit India Before Summit

The United Kingdom government has invited PM Narendra Modi to attend the G7 summit slated for June. Besides India, Australia and South Korea have also been invited to "deepen the expertise and experience around the table." Moreover, a press statement from British PM Boris Johnson's office has indicated that he "will visit India ahead of the G7". UK Appoints Alexander Ellis As British High Commissioner To India

The British foreign office on January 5 appointed Alexander Ellis, a career diplomat as the Commissioner to India. Ellis who previously served as the Deputy National Security Adviser in the British cabinet, will assume office in the latter part of January. The British office announced its appointment ahead of UK PM Boris Johnson's visit to India on the Republic Day which has been cancelled due to UK's COVID crisis.

COVID-19: UK PM Boris Johnson Calls Off Republic Day Visit

UK PM Boris Johnson will not attend India's Republic Day celebrations as he cancelled his visit to India on January 5. PM Johnson called off his visit citing to monitor the COVID-19 response in the UK. He also expressed his regret to PM Narendra Modi for not attending the ceremony.
