ECI Announces Odisha Panchayat Polls, Scheduled From Feb 16
The ECI, on January 11, announced the Odisha Panchayat Poll schedule. The five phased elections will begin from February 16, followed by February 18, 20, 22 and 24. Polling will be held between 7:00 am to 1:00 pm, to elect 91,913 ward members, 6,794 sarpanches and 6,793 panchayat members. At least 2.79 crore voters are eligible to cast votes and results will be announced on February 26, 27 and 28.

EC Moves Madras HC To Stop Media From Reporting Oral Observations
Following Madras High Court’s remark of pressing "murder charges" on the Election Commission, the poll body has moved to the apex court to stop media from reporting oral observations. West Bengal: EC Declines Possibility Of All Phases Election Into One
The Election Commission of India on April 15, put an end to all the speculations of uniting the remaining four phases of assembly elections in West Bengal. The officials stated that polling for the remaining phases will be held as scheduled. Besides, an all-party meeting will be conducted on April 16, conducted by the West Bengal Chief Electoral officer Aariz Aftab. Reportedly, the votes will be counted on May 2.

EC Replaces Over 10 Officials In West Bengal After They Test COVID+
The Election Commission has replaced over 10 election officials in West Bengal after they tested positive for COVID-19. The replacement was done of some observers and a returning officer. An official stated, "We have asked everyone to wear masks and maintain physical distancing." The third phase of the State Assembly elections is slated for April 6, where 78,52,425 voters will decide the fate of 205 candidates in 31 constituencies.

Assam BJP Denies Any Involvement In EVM Controversy As EC Calls Re-Poll

CM Mamata's Asset Worth Dips 45% Since 2016 Polls, Claims Affidavit
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, in her affidavit submitted to Election Commission, claimed her total assets to be Rs 16,72,352. The reports showed her assets decreased by a whopping 45.08% since the 2016 elections. Besides, TMC's Mamata Bhunia and Sukumar De have lost 37% and 36% assets respectively. Meanwhile, Kakdwip MLA Manturam Pakhira's assets grew nearly Rs 51 lakh with a 735.95% surge in a span of 5 years.

EC Orders Removal of PM Modi's Photo From Vaccine Certificates
Health Ministry has received an order from Election Commission to remove Prime Minister Narendra Modi's photo from the coronavirus vaccine certificate of poll-bound states. Citing the Election Code Of Conduct, the EC directed the removal in West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Assam, Kerala, and UT Puducherry. The action came after TMC complained about the norm violation and accused PM Modi of stealing credit from doctors, nurses and health workers.

Central Army Forces Deployed In WB, Ahead Of The State Election
