Inhumane! Wounded Elephant Set On Fire In Tamil Nadu, Dies Later

In an inhumane act of man-animal conflict, a group of men hurled a burning piece of cloth at a wounded elephant who later died. The incident, which happened weeks ago at a farmhouse in Tamil Nadu’s Mavanallah, surfaced after its video went viral. Reportedly, the already hurt elephant had entered a private facility in the buffer zone of Mudumalai Tiger Reserve. While the authorities have arrested two people, one is still absconding.

Tamil Nadu: Male Elephant Dies Of Electric Shock In Coimabatore

A male elephant died of electrocution on the outskirts of Coimbatore when it accidentally came into contact with an electric fence in a paddy field. On the information from Semmedu village locals, the Boluvampatti forest range officials discovered the high voltage electric fence was connected illegally. Filing a case under the Wild Life Offence Report against Durai alias Aruchamy, the authorities are in search of the absconding accused.

Tamil Nadu Forest Authorities to Carry Study on Elephants in Coonoor Area

Tamil Nadu Forest department in association with WWF-India will study elephants on the Coonoor ghat stretch. Authorities say this will help them know more about elephant’s habitat range along Coonoor hill area. Reportedly, forest officials will study the seasonality of movement, habitat entry points and the fodder that makes the elephants climb the slopes.
