Bangalore Civic Body Focuses on Waste Management; Collects Rs 75 Lakh In Fines

In a span of five months (June-October), the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike has collected Rs 75 lakh in fines from those failing to adhere by waste management rules. Reportedly, the civic body has appointed 250 marshals and uses eight patrol vehicles for this purpose. It has fixed a fine of Rs 1000 for disposing garbage in open places and same amount for failing to segregate the waste.

UP: Over 180 FIRs Lodged In 240 Stubble Burning Cases In October

Uttar Pradesh authorities have imposed a total fine of Rs 3.5 lakh against stubble burning instances in the month of October. The state's Additional Chief Secretary Devesh Chaturvedi said that 240 stubble burning cases were reported since October 1, and over 180 FIRs have been filed. He asserted that they are creating awareness and providing "equipment related to stubble management" to farmers, in order to discourage stubble burning.

Bengaluru: Civic Body Imposes Fine On 1.25 Lakh People Over COVID Norms

Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike on October 8 informed the High Court of Karnataka that it had imposed fines on over 1.25 lakh people for violating COVID-19 norms in last four months. It stated Rs 2.65 crore was collected from people who failed to wear masks. Reportedly, an additional Rs 31.5 lakh was collected from those who violated social distancing norms. Besides, 170 establishments had been sealed for violating COVID-19 rules.

Aaj Tak Penalised For Airing Misleading Tweets In Sushant's Case

Citing the telecast of fake tweets, News Broadcasting Standards Authority (NBSA) has imposed a fine of Rs 1 lakh on news channel 'Aaj Tak'. Reportedly, the news channel had aired some tweets that were wrongly attributed to late actor Sushant Singh Rajput. It also directed the channel to air an apology, and ordered to remove videos of the same if telecasted on any digital media platforms.

Karnataka Govt To Punish Individuals Refusing COVID-19 Test

In order to contain the virus transmission, Karnataka government on October 6 announced that the state will take stringent actions against those who refuse to take COVID-19 test. The government has invoked the 'Epidemic Diseases Ordinance 2020', according to which, violators could be fined up to Rs 50,000 and imprisoned for upto three years. Reportedly, the move was taken after few primary contacts refused the undergo the COVID-19 test.

IPL 2020: Fine Of Rs 12 Lakh Imposed On Shreyas Iyer For Slow Over Rate

The Delhi Capitals team Captain, Shreyas Iyer, has been levied a fine of Rs 12 lakh after his team maintained a slow over-rate in the match against SunRisers Hyderabad on September 29. The fine was imposed in accordance with the IPL's Code of Conduct regarding minimum over-rate offence . Earlier, the Royal Challengers Bangalore captain, Virat Kohli, had been fined on September 25 for the same reasons.
