China Announces World's Second-Largest Hydroelectric Dam
The world's second-largest hydroelectric dam in southwestern China was officially announced on June 28. The Baihetan Dam built on the Jinsha River, a branch of the Yangtze, is a part of China's efforts to reduce rising fossil fuel consumption. However, the count of dams has decreased in other nations owing to environmental concerns. Besides, the declaration is presented before the Communist Party's commemoration of its 100th anniversary.
