Veteran Tennis ace Serena Williams on May 8 faced a defeat in her 1,000th tour-level singles match. Serena lost to Argentine Nadia Podoroska in the second round of the Italian Open. She lost the match with a 7-6 (6) 7-5 score in a game that lasted around two hours. The eighth-seed American tennist was competing in her first match after a long break since she last contested the Australian Open.

Post Disqualification, Novak Djokovic Wins First Match in Italian Open
Novak Djokovic on September 16 defeated Salvatore Caruso in the first round of the Italian Open in Foro Italico. World number one defeated the Italian wild-card entry Caruso with a score of 6-3 6-2, finishing it off in the second round. Novak was disqualified in the US Open earlier this month.
