Karnataka Forest Deptt To Propose Conservation Plan For Kolar Bats
The Karnataka Forest Department and the Bat Conservation India Trust are drawing a conservation plan to save the endangered the 'Kolar Leaf-Nosed Bat'. The species, endemic to Karnataka, are found only in the caves of Hanumanahalli in Kolar district. Moreover, the state government has demarcated the 30 acres around the caves as protected area. Reportedly, only 150 bats of the species are left in the caves now.
