Earthquake Of 6.8 Magnitude Jolts China’s Sichuan; 65 Dead, 16 Missing

In China’s Sichuan province, an earthquake of 6.8 magnitude on the Richter scale hit the mountainous area in Luding county, on September 6. The earthquake set off landslides and shook buildings, killing as many as 65 people and leaving hundreds injured. Moreover, at least 16 people are missing. The earthquake shook buildings in the capital city of Chengdu, which is currently under a COVID-19 lockdown.

Landslide In Kerala’s Idukki Claims Lives Of 3; 2 Others Missing

In Kerala’s Idukki, a landslide in the early hours on August 29, has claimed the lives of three persons including a minor boy. Also, the incident has left two other persons missing. Reportedly, the landslide washed away the house of the deceased. Meanwhile, a search operation has been initiated to find and rescue the three family members who went missing. House Collapses In Himachal Pradesh’s Chamba; 3 Gone Missing

In Himachal Pradesh’s Chamba district, a landslide caused by heavy rains has resulted in the collapsing of a house, on August 20. The incident occurred at around 4:30 am in Chowari tehsil’s Barnet village, and has left three persons missing. A search operation has been initiated to rescue to missing persons. Meanwhile, flash floods occurred in Mandi district, causing water to enter into residents, shops and other buildings.

Landslide In Himachal Pradesh Kills Woman, Child, 2 Injured

In Himachal Pradesh's Chamba, a woman and her child died and two others were severely injured in a landslide incident on August 17, confirmed disaster management officials. The landslide occurred above Hadsar in Chamba district in the evening.  Furthermore, the injured have been admitted to Bharmour hospital. This is a developing story, more details are awaited.

Kerala Records Highest Number Of Landslides In Last 7 Years: Govt

The Ministry of Earth and Science told Lok Sabha on July 27, that Kerala recorded the highest number of landslides in the country, in the last seven years. Out of the 3,782 major landslides that occurred in the country during the said period, 2,239 were recorded in Kerala. West Bengal recorded the second highest number of landslides in the said time, with 376 landslides.

Manipur Landslide: 4 More Bodies Recovered, Search For Missing Persons Underway

In Manipur, four more bodies were recovered after landslide stuck the Money district, said the State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF). So far, 13 Territorial Army personnel and five civilians have been rescued, said the Indian Army. Meanwhile, mortal remains of nine Territorial Army personnel and one civilian have been recovered from the site. Reportedly, the search for the missing persons is underway. Massive Landslide Kills 7 & Leaves 13 Injured In Manipur's Noney; Rescue Operations Underway

In Manipur's Noney district, a massive landslide which struck near a railway construction camp has resulted in the death of seven persons, and left 13 others injured. According to Home Minister Amit Shah, rescue operations are underway and National Disaster Response Force personnel are on site. Reportedly, the landslides were caused due to incessant rains, and so far, 19 persons have been rescued.

Jammu-Srinagar Highway Closed For Vehicular Movement Amid Landslide

Jammu-Srinagar national highway was closed for the fourth consecutive day on June 24, amid blasting boulders blocking roads due to landslides, mudslides and shooting stones. Jammu-Srinagar Highway Blocked Due To Heavy Rainfall & Landslides: J&K

Following landslides at several places in J&K, the Jammu-Srinagar highway was blocked for traffic movement, on June 22. Around 3,000 vehicles were stranded in the highway. The government stated that only the stranded vehicles will be allowed to move, once the road is cleared. Also, new vehicles will not be allowed. Besides, various other highways were also blocked due to constant rainfall and shooting of stones, as a result.
