Sri Lanka Court Orders Former PM Rajapaksa Not To Leave Country Amid Violence

In Sri Lanka, a court has banned former Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa and his allies from leaving the country. The decision was taken over acts of violence against anti-government protestors amid the worst economy on the island. Notably, the MPs and ministers of Sri Lanka are hiding at the naval base on the Eastern coast. Recently, a violent clash broke out due to which a curfew was imposed.

Sri Lanka Violence Intensifies, 8 People Died In Clash

In Sri Lanka violence intensified after the government called for an emergency nationwide curfew and the resignation of PM Rajapaksa. In Negombo, violence broke out leading to the killing of eight people, in the past 24 hours. Furthermore, the protestors gathered on road in support of the Prime Minister. Meanwhile, approximately 216 people were injured and are being admitted in Colombo, the capital city.

Sri Lankan Cabinet ministers submitted their resignations with immediate effect, from April 4, amid the worst economic crisis in the nation. Education Minister and Leader of the House, Dinesh Gunawardena said the Cabinet Ministers handed over their mass resignations to PM Mahinda Rajapaksa. Notably, the citizens of Sri Lanka came out on the streets to protest against the Rajapaksa administration amid the economic crisis.
