Puducherry To Face Floor Test Ahead Of Assembly Polls On Feb 22

Following the resignation of MLAs from the ruling government, the Union Territory of Pudducherry will witness a floor test on February 22. The floor test would determine the majority of the ruling government. Currently, members of the ruling and the opposition stand at 14 in the 33 member assembly. While Puducherry BJP President urged Chief Minister V Narayanaswamy, the latter in turn accused the BJP of toppling the government.

Puducherry's Congress-Led Govt Falls In Minority; Fourth MLA Resigns

Puducherry’s Congress-led government has fallen in the minority after MLA John Kumar resigned without any explanation. Resultantly, Congress' membership fell from 15 to 10 in the 30 member assembly. While John became the fourth member to resign, two of the earlier three defected to the BJP. Resigning a day ahead of Rahul Gandhi's visit to the poll-bound UT, John recently met President to seek the removal of Puducherry L-G Kiran Bedi.

Tamil Nadu, Puducherry Likely To Witness More Rains From December 1

The regional office of India Meteorological Department on November 27 forecasted that a low-pressure area over the Bay of Bengal could cause excess rainfall in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry. Deputy Director-General of Meteorology, Chennai, S Balachandran stated that widespread rains are expected from December 1 to 3 in the regions. Reportedly, light to moderate rains are expected for the next few days in the regions.

Fire Explosion At  Private Residence in Puducherry; Two Dead

Fire explosion at a private residence killed two people in Ariyankuppam district of Puducherry. Reportedly, the victims, Napoleon and his wife were preparing fire crackers at home without a licence. According to the reports, the fire fighters reached the spot immediately, and tried to extinguish the flames.
