Hotels, Restaurants And Bars Can't Levy Service Charges On Food Bills, Guidelines Issued
Amid complaints from consumers, the Central Consumer Protection Authority (CCPA) on July 4, issued a set of guidelines for bars and hotels. Under the guidelines, the hotels and restaurants can't levy service charges automatically or by default in food bills, allowing customers to file complaints in case of violation. The decision will curb unfair trade practices and violation of consumer rights in service charges, which are usually 10%.
