Assam: Baghjan Fire Fully Extinguished After 172 days
The massive fire at Baghjan oil well in Assam has been completely extinguished after 172 days, on November 15. "Further operation to abandon the well is in progress," said a spokesperson of Oil India Limited (OIL). Reportedly, the fire had killed three people. Earlier, the well in Tinsukia district caught fire on June 9 after it suffered a gas leakage on May 27. The incident has also led to migration of locals.

NGT Committee Terms Baghjan, 26 Other Oil Fields Of Assam As Illegal
A National Green Tribunal committee has termed the Baghjan oil-field and 26 other oil-wells in Assam as illegal. Citing the findings of Justice Katakey Committee, the tribunal said none of the oil-fields procured the mandatory environmental clearances.
