Delhi Zoo Reopens After An Year, Witness 1,600 Visitors On Day 1

Delhi’s National Zoological Park on April 1 witnessed over 1600 visitors as it reopened after being shut for almost a year due to the pandemic. Zoo director Ramesh Pandey informed that 483 tickets worth Rs 1.18 lakh were sold as the visitors came in two shifts. Ensuring social distancing and opening more entry points, the officials are also assessing captive animals' reactions on seeing people after over a year.

The Ambanis To Set Up World's Largest Zoo In Gujarat

In what could be called a peculiar move, Asia's richest 'The Ambanis' family are planning to set up the world's biggest zoo in Gujarat. With Komodo dragons, cheetahs and birds, the venture is slated to open in 2023. Moreover, the zoo premises includes a rescue centre to support the local government. While a Reliance group official confirmed the move, the cost involved in the project is not revealed.

India's Celebrity-like Chimpanzee Suzi Dies Of Heart Attack

India's most popular and the only chimpanzee in the Hyderabad zoo, Suzi, succumbed to a heart-stroke on November 12. The 34-year-old was one among the few chimps left in Indian zoos and was widely popular among the zookeepers and visitors. An autopsy report revealed that the chimp's lungs and heart had failed, which lead to a stroke. Interestingly, Suzi was once a pet of the Sahara group's owner Subrata Roy.

160 Zoos In Country Will Be Revitalised Through PPP Model: Javadekar
