Taliban Requests To Speak At UN For 'Worldwide Recognition'
The Taliban has sought to speak to global leaders at United Nations in New York and nominated its Doha spokesperson Suhail Shaheen as Afghanistan's UN ambassador on September 21. Acceptance of Taliban envoy by UN will be a significant milestone in the group's worldwide recognition campaign, which may help release much-needed funds for Afghanistan's ailing economy. The request was made by Taliban Foreign-Minister in a letter to U.N. Secretary-General.
