Govt Nods To Underwater Optic Fibre Scheme To Deliver E-Gov Services
The Cabinet has approved to lay underwater optical fibre network between Kochi and Lakshadweep Islands to improve the doorstep delivery of e-Governance services. A government release has stated that the project would also help in developing fisheries, coconut-based industries and tourism. Reportedly, the project will be banked by Universal Service Obligation Fund with BSNL acting as executing agency. The estimated Rs 1,072 crore project will likely be completed by 2023.
