RPA To Direct 10-Years Passport Validity For Karti Chidambaram

Union former P Chidambaram's son Karti Chidambaram will get a new passport with 13-year passport validity. The Madras HC  bench led by Justice M Govindaraj asked the Regional Passport Authority (RPA) to issue the passport. He allowed a writ petition from Karti, dismissing petition ordered dated April 8. 2021 and August 24, 2021, of the RPA, which turned down Karti's plea for passport valid for 10 years.

MK Stalin Urge Centre To Evacuate Indian-Tamils Stranded In Ukraine

Amid the Russia-Ukraine crisis, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin appealed to the Centre to arrange special flights to rescue TN students. Almost 5000 students of Tamil Nadu are stranded in Ukraine. "I request the Government of India to arrange for Special Mission flights like Vande Bharath Mission to evacuate them from various parts of Ukraine," said Stalin. However, on February 24, Russia declared war against Ukraine.

Telugu cartoonist Devulapalli Subbaraya Shastri, passed away during the night of January 27 in Chennai. He is considered as the "Father of Indian Comics". Devulapalli died due to prolonged age related illness. Notably, the 91-year-old, a native of Andhra Pradesh, gained popularity for Panchatantra and Bujjai. He also received "Bala Bandu" award in 1992 by the then Andhra Pradesh Government.

All Animals In Chennai's Vandalur Zoo Test COVID-19 Negative, Confirms Authorities

In Chennai's Arignar Anna Zoological Park at Suburban Vandalur, all the animals are said to be COVID-19 negative. The tests were conducted after 70 staff of the zoo tested positive for COVID-19. Reportedly, the tests were sent to the National Institute of High Security Animal Diseases (NIHSAD). Meanwhile, the zoological park has been temporarily closed from January 17.

IMD Issues Heavy Rainfall Alert For Tamil Tadu

K S Sethumadhavan Known For Malayalam Films Dies In Chennai

K S Sethumadhavan, famous as a filmmaker in the Malayalam language, died at the age of 90 in Chennai, on December 24. He was ailing due to age-related issues for some time, reported PTI. He started his career in the early 1960s and directed over 60 movies. He also worked in Tamil, Telugu, and Hindi languages. Born in Kerala's Palakkad, Sethumadhavan is survived by wife Valsala and three children.
