Delhi-NCR, Adjoining Areas Receive Heavy Rains & Thunderstorms
Delhi-NCR and several adjoining areas woke up to monstrous rains and thunderstorms on the morning of January 8, which increased the air quality. The rainfall received was 40.6 mm, as per IMD reports. Following the rains, Delhi's air quality improved to 95 (AQI), which is termed "satisfactory". "The air quality is likely to remain in moderate category on Sunday and moderate to poor category on Monday," said Weather Department.

Delhi Boy Murdered For Refusing To Lend Jacket; 3 Arrested
Deputy Commissioner of Police Parvinder Singh on January 4, informed that three people have been arrested from Mangolpuri, in connection with a murder of an 18-year-old. The three accused have been identified as Prince, Harshu, and Javed. Reportedly, on December 25, Prince stabbed the victim Santosh for not lending him a jacket to "impress a girl" and threw his body into a drain. The body has been recovered.

Delhi Records Lowest Temperature Of This Winter Season
Delhi recorded a temperature of 3.2 degrees Celsius on December 20. It's the lowest temperature for this 'winter season', reported UNI. However, the IMD issued a 'yellow alert' (severely bad weather) in the National Capital, stating cold waves will continue along with drizzling on December 24 and 25. Reportedly, the morning temperature is recorded at 3° and it is expected to go upto 19°.

Delhi Witnesses 'Coldest Morning' With 4.6° Celsius Temperature
Delhi witnessed coldest morning on December 19, with temperature falling as low as 4.6° Celsius, reported weather department. According to IMD, the maximum temperature of Delhi will be nearly 18° Celsius. With today's temperature, Delhi witnessed first 'Cold Day' in 2021. Notably, below 10° Celsius is termed as 'Cold Day'. Delhi's AQI Remains Under 'Very Poor' Category With 319 AQI: SAFAR
After days of efforts, the Delhi Air Quality Index (AQI) is now under 'very Poor' category from the previous 'severe category'. On December 18, the National Capital recorded 319 AQI, reported SAFAR. Meanwhile, to control the AQI further, the Delhi Government extended ban on entry of non-essential trucks in the city, until further orders. Furthermore, the Government also announced to resume schools for classes 6 onwards, from December 18.

Delhi Govt Reduces VAT On Petrol, New Prices Less By Rs 8
The Delhi Government reduced VAT from 30% (Rs 23.99) to 19.4 % (Rs 15.25 ), resulting reduction in petrol prices. The step was a relief to Delhi citizens, who will get 1 litre petrol for Rs 95.50 from the previous Rs 103.97, reduced by Rs 8. Reportedly, fuels prices may go down further as the international crude prices have been reduced by over 10% in the last few days.

Delhi's AQI Remains Under 'Very Poor' Category: SAFAR
Delhi's air quality, on November 29, remained in the "very poor" category with a 370 Air Quality Index (AQI). Moreover, Mathur Road and Delhi University's AQI are at 406 and 416, respectively, reported to be "Severe Category" by SAFAR. AQI of Gurugram (369) and Noida (391) are also worsening under the "very poor" category. However, slight improvement is expected on November 29-30, due to high wind speed.

Ready For Lockdown In Delhi, But Under One Condition: AAP To SC
The Aam Admi Party (AAP) in Delhi told the Supreme Court on November 15, that it's ready to implement a full lockdown in the city, under "one condition". The government proposed a lockdown to be implemented in the National Capital Region (NCR). Reportedly, the government feels a lockdown in the city will have limited impact on the air quality regime, due to the rising stubble burning across the NCR area.

1st 'Severe' Smog Outbreak Strikes Delhi & NCR; Expected To Last 2 More Days
Delhi and the National Capital Region (NCR) have been hit by their first "severe" smog outbreak. On November 10, the green think-tank Centre for Science and Environment (CSE) predicted that it would endure another two days. The contribution of smoke peaked on November 7, when it reached 48%, as per reports. This is the second-highest daily contribution percentage recorded since 2018.

Petrol, Diesel Prices Hiked For 4th Day In A Row; Hits New High
In Delhi, petrol now costs an all-time high of Rs 110.04 (PL), while diesel continues to retail at Rs 98.42 (PL). In Mumbai, petrol costs Rs 115.85 (PL) and diesel costs Rs 106.62 (PL). Petrol prices have been increased by 31 to 36 paise (PL) while diesel prices surged by 34 to 39 paise (PL) across the country on November 1, according to price notification from state-owned fuel retailers.
