Massive Fire Reported At Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Forest Area
In Jammu Kashmir near the Trikuta Hills of Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine, a massive forest fire broke out on December 22. However, the forest department and the team of the shrine board doused the fire. No damage has been reported so far and the yatra remained unaffected. The cause of the fire is yet not clear. "We're in touch with the management," tweeted Jitendra Singh, Union Minister of State.

Uttarakhand Forest Department Conducts Study To Save Flying Squirrels
The Research Wing of Uttarakhand Forest Department said it's registered the existence of five different species of flying squirrel in its new study in the state. NITK Students Design E-Bike For Forest Department: Karnataka
National Institute of Technology Karnataka students designed an e-bike for the forest department. This mobility drive can be solar-powered and charge walkie-talkies, mobiles, or GPS systems. The headlight can be dismantled into a portable torch. ''This e-bike was designed keeping in mind the need of the forest department and officials,'' reported ANI. ''We'd like to thank NITK for giving us this opportunity,'' said Rakshith, a student.

Leopard Kills 2 Kids; Shimla Locals Demand To Declare It 'Man-eater'
Locals in Uttarakhand's Shimla under the banner of ''Shimla Nagrik Sabha'' demanded from the forest department to declare a leopard which hunted two children within three months a ''man-eater''. They also said that the government should also provide ex-gratia of Rs 10 lakh each to the victim's family. It'll be declared a ''man-eater'' after the physical test of the leopard, said Anil Thakur, Principal Chief Conservator.

Rescue Team Shoots A Bear In Personal Safety In Uttarakhand
The officials of the forest department of Uttarakhand's Chamoli shot a bear dead during a rescue operation after it attacked five personnel on September 22. Reportedly, the department launched the operation following the locals of Chamoli's Joshimath area complained about a bear roaming in the area. The department said, ''they tried to catch the bear by throwing a net. However, the bear attacked the team.''

4-Month-Old Baby Elephant Rescued From Well In West Bengal
The West Bengal forest department on January 26 rescued a four-month-old baby elephant trapped in a well in Jhargram district. However, it took over two-and-a-half-hours to rescue and unite the jumbo with its mother. Reportedly, the animal had fallen into the well while crossing the area with its large herd. Upon noticing, the locals called the forest officials who dug an adjacent well with an earthmover to rescue the elephant calf.
