Taliban Arrests 3 Local Journalists, Shuts Down Radio Station In Kandahar
The Taliban on March 29, arrested three journalists and closed a radio station for reasons unknown. As per local media, Taliban intelligence stormed into the voice of the nation radio station in Kandahar and "captured" all the journalists. "My son is neither a criminal not a gunman. He is an ordinary person, and a journalist," said mother of a journalist who got arrested.

Dainik Bhaskar Evaded Tax Rs 700 crore In 6 Yrs, Says Income Tax
Following the raids at the different offices of the Dainik Bhaskar media group, the Income Tax Department alleged on July 24 that the group refused to pay tax worth Rs 700 crore in six-year so far. The department said the group used the employees' Id proofs to operate fake companies and ''for booking bogus expenses''. However, the group retaliated saying ''the government was scared of'' its critical journalism.

First Woman Copy Editor Of The Times Dies At 91; Pioneer of "Ms." Word
The New York Times' first woman copy editor, Betsy Wade, passed away at 91 on December 3. She had also fought a legal case against the newspaper over its gender-biased policies. Interestingly, Wade pioneered the use of "Ms.", instead of "Mrs." or "Miss", for women in news articles of The Times. Wade became the first woman to lead 'NewsGuild' and had received the lifetime achievement award of the Silurians Press Club in 2016.
