Election Petitions Should Ideally Be Disposed Within 6 Months: Karnataka HC

The Karnataka High Court observed that election petitions should be disposed within a period of six months, and should not be dragged. This has come as the court observed that elections petitions are usually dragged till the next election. The observation was made by Justice Krishna S Dixit in an election petition filed by Muniraju Gowda in 2018. Notably, Gowda had lost the RR Nagar assembly seat to Munirathna Naidu.

NIA Conducts Raids At 24 Locations In Praveen Nettaru Murder Case: Mangalore

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) in Karnataka’s Mangalore, conducted raids at 14 locations in connection to the Praveen Nettaru murder case. Several places in Puttur and Sullia are being raided following the alleged murder of 32-year-old BJP Yuva Morcha leader Praveen Nettaru. Reportedly in Mangalore, on July 26, three persons came in a vehicle and hacked Nettaru to death outside his chicken shop.

Girl Falls From Scooty In Bangalore’s Waterlogged Road, Gets Electrocuted: Karnataka

In Karnataka’s Bangalore, a 23-year-old girl after accidentally coming in contact with a live wire, died on September 6. The victim identified as Akhila, was returning home from work when her scooty skidded in a waterlogged road. When she attempted to grab an electric pole, she was electrocuted. The family of the deceased blamed the BBMP and the administration for improper handling for electricity and other systems.

Former Congress Leader Brijesh Kalappa Joins AAP: Karnataka

Former Congress leader and senior Supreme Court lawyer Brijesh Kalappa joined the Aam Aadmi Party, on September 5, in Karnataka. He was welcomed into the party by AAP's Karnataka in-charge Dilip Pandey. Kalappa resigned from the primary membership of the party in May, ending his 25-years long association with the grand old party. "The AAP has the potential to counter the BJP's misrule," said Brijesh Kalappa.

Bangalore Rains: Several Areas Waterlogged After Heavy Downpour

Bangalore Rains: Schools & Colleges Shut Due To Heavy Downpour

A holiday has been declared to schools and colleges in Karnataka’s Bangalore amid heavy downpour, on August 30. The rains have caused several trees to be uprooted, and water-logging at various locations of the city. With this, daily commute has been impacted for thousands. On August 29, CM Basavaraj Bommai visited flood-hit areas of Ramnagar district, and inspected the large-scale damage to the crops.

Karnataka Monsoon Session To Begin From Sep 12, Announces Cabinet

The Karnataka cabinet announced to convene the monsoon session of the state legislature from September 12. The Cabinet meeting held on August 25, suggested the session be for 10 working days, to discuss issues and bills in the State. Prohibitory Measures Imposed In Kodagu, Karnataka From August 24 To 27

Kodagu authorities have issued prohibitory measures across the district under Section 144 of the CrPC and related provisions of the Karnataka Police Act, 1963. The orders will go into effect at 6 a.m. on August 24 and will stay in force until 6 p.m. on August 27. The government has rejected permission for both the Congress protest and the BJP's Jana Jagruthi Samavesha. Both events are set for August 26.
