Kolkata On Alert Amid Cyclone, KMC Cancels Staff Leaves
The Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) issued alerts for employees and disaster management teams amid the formation of cyclonic storm Asani. The cyclone is likely to intensify further into a severe cyclone, said mayor Firhad Hakim on May 8. Furthermore, leaves of all the employees have been cancelled and were alerted to deal with the cyclone, likely on May 9,10. The cyclone will bring heavy rainfall in the city.

Congress Worker Held For Hurling Bomb During Kolkata Civic Polls
Kolkata Police arrested a Congress worker based on the CCTV footage for hurling a crude bomb outside a polling booth in North Kolkata on December 19. The booth was set up at Taki Boys School in ward 36 of North Kolkata. Reportedly, a voter also got injured in the incident. Notably, the polling for 144 wards of Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) has been scheduled to continue till 5 PM.

Voting Underway In 144 Wards For Kolkata Municipal Corporation
Voting for the much-anticipated Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) was begun for all 144 wards on December 19, amid tight security with all Covid-19 protocols. The polling is being held at 1,776 polling stations across the city and the counting of the votes will start from December 21. The KMC elections were supposed to be happening in 2020 but were delayed due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
