The UP's excise department is eyeing to reduce the home stock limit of liquor bought for private consumption. In the newly approved Liquor Policy, the Uttar Pradesh government has mandated to avail licence to store liquor at home. Under this, one can store up to 1.5 litres of country-made and Indian made foreign liquor along with four beer bottles. Moreover, to store above the prescribed limit, people will have to obtain Rs 12,000 worth annual licence and pay Rs 51,000 as security to the state excise department.

In Uttar Pradesh’s Aligarh district, a newlywed man has been stabbed to death by his friends for not providing them with alcohol. The 28-year-old Bablu was unable to arrange liquor for his friends, whom he visited soon after his marriage. In a heated argument, one of the drunk friends attacked and stabbed Bablu. While the police have arrested the main accused Ramkhiladi, they are in search of the absconders.

After requests from the Confederation of Indian Alcoholic Beverage Companies (CIABC), the West Bengal government has restructured the pricing scheme for alcohol retailers.
