World Malala Day holds an important significance in the field of literature. The day is an honour to Malala Yousafzai, the youngest recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize. Every year people from all across the world celebrate World Malala Day on July 12, to celebrate Malala, who inspire many people around the world, and her commitment to education, especially for girls, which is truly remarkable and outstanding, especially in literature.

During the Kolkata Literature Festival, several authors and writers discussed the relevance of Bengali literature in the age of social media. One of the poets Srijato Bandyopadhyaya said, "Covid-19 and news of deaths in the past two years have made us aware about the futility of the long term plans." Another writer Pracheto Gupta stated, "populism is no yardstick for determining the relevance of a creative piece of work".

The Swedish Academy has awarded the Nobel Prize in literature for the year 2020 to American poet Louise Glück. She was awarded for “her unmistakable poetic voice that with austere beauty makes individual existence universal.” The 77-year-old poet has already bagged various literary awards including the Pulitzer prize in 1993.
