Mathematician Discovers 3700-Year-Old Clay Tablet

Australian mathematician named Daniel Mansfield has discovered a piece of clay tablet from the Old Babylonian Period, claiming it to be the oldest example of applied geometry. The 3700-year-old tablet also called Si.427 was housed in one of Istanbul’s museums for over 100 years. “It's the only known example of a cadastral document from the OB period, which is a plan used by surveyors to define land boundaries,” said Mansfield.
