Holding Minor's Hand, Opening Pant's Zip Not Sexual Assault: Bombay HC

Quashing a session court's order, the Nagpur bench of the Bombay High Court observed that holding a minor's hand or opening her pant's zip does not qualify as "sexual assault" under the POCSO Act. Justice Pushpa Ganediwala stated this while hearing a case of a 50-year-old man held for harassing a five-year-old girl. The judge said that such crimes should be treated as "sexual harassment" under the Indian Penal Code.

Nagpur Man Coming From UK Suspected Of Carrying New COVID Strain

Nagpur's Government Medical College on December 24 raised flag that a man, who recently travelled from the UK, might be carrying new strain of the COVID-19. Superintendent of the medical college, Dr Avinash Gawande, said that the 28-year-old man had tested negative at the airport but later developed symptoms and underwent RT-PCR testing which showed positive result. Maharashtra: 3.3 Magnitude Earthquake Hits Nagpur

Maharashtra's Nagpur experienced a mild earthquake of 3.3 magnitude at the early hours of October 27. However, no damage has been reported yet. The National Center of Seismology (NCS) informed that the earthquake occurred at around 4:10 AM at 96 km north-northeast of Nagpur. The NCS has further told that the depth of the earthquake was 15 km.

Maha CM To Provide Financial Aid To  Flood-Affected; Rs 16.50 crore Fund Released

Maharashtra Government, on September 04, announced the release of Rs 16.5 crore to help flood-affected people in Nagpur division. Maharashtra CMO tweeted, that the fund will be utilized to provide financial aid to repair houses and build shelters. Earlier, on August 30, State Disaster Rescue Force (SDRF) had rescued over 2,500 people from flood-affected regions of Nagpur. "Crops have been damaged to a large extent," Farmers reported.

Nagpur Floods Badly Affect Farmers: "A Flood Like Never Before"

The farmers in Nagpur are badly affected due to the recent floods. In a few areas, floodwater entered the fields and damaged the crops. The locals claimed that they have never seen a "flood like this before". Rohit Sawant, a local, said that when the floodwaters entered their village, the people abandoned their homes and rushed towards safety. He further stated that the severity of the floods were higher than the stories from the past.
