Setting up a "period room" at a public toilet, Maharashtra's Thane city has strived to facilitate menstrual hygiene among women dwelling in slums. The Thane Municipal Corporation and an NGO have jointly instituted the facility in a slum in the Shanti Nagar locality of Wagle Estate area. In a much-acclaimed initiative, a Bangalore-based research scientist Vinod Kartavya, with his five friends, have resolved to make the trees nails, staple pins and posters free. Interestingly, Vinod removes the pins and poster from the trees on every Sunday. He has decided to follow it after one such nail pricked him. Moreover, he runs a social media challenge, 'Nail Free Tree' asking people to post their photos after removing nails.
