Legendary Kathak Maestro Pandit Birju Maharaj Passes Away At 83
India on January 17, woke up to the grim news of Kathak maestro Pandit Birju Maharaj's passing away. The 83-year-old maestro was under dialysis treatment and died of cardiac arrest, said his granddaughter. UP CM Yogi Adityanath paid his heartfelt condolences and said, "His passing is an irreparable loss to the art world." In 1984 Pandit Birju Maharaj received the Padma Vibhushan award for his contribution to Indian arts.
