Karnataka HC Rules SC/ST Law Applies Only If Caste Assault Occurs In Public Area

Karnataka High Court has ruled that screaming casteist insults in a public place is an offense under the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act. It overturned a pending case against a person after discovering that the suspected assault occurred in a basement of a building. Rithesh Pias allegedly yelled casteist remarks toward Mohan in the basement of a building where he was working with others in 2020.
