Afghanistan's Coach Lance Klusener Decides To Leave Team: Cricket

Following two years of service, Lance Klusener, former South African all-rounder, said that he has decided not to renew his contract as Afghanistan cricket team head coach after December 31. Reportedly, it is a big jolt for the team after the Taliban took over Afghanistan. ''I look forward to the next stage in my coaching career,'' said Klusener. Notably, Afghanistan improved its performance a lot under Klusener's guidance.

Poland Mandates 14-Day Quarantine For Non-EU Travelers: Omicron Scare

Poland has imposed a mandatory 14-day quarantine for travelers from non-European countries. Health minister Adam Niedzielski announced a ban on flights from seven African countries affected by the Omicron variant of Covid-19. The quarantined travelers will be free to leave if they test negative after eight days, he said. Notably, Poland had a 10-day mandatory quarantine rule, which has now become 14 days.

South Africa Returnee In Thane Tests COVID Positive; Omicron Test Underway

South Africa returnee tested positive for Covid-19 in Dombivali, Thane, Maharashtra.  The Kalyan Dombivali Municipal Corporation (KDMC) officials have collected his samples for genome sequencing, to identify if he is carrying Omicron, the new Covid-19 variant from South Africa, which is classified as "Variant of Concern" by WHO. The man returned from South Africa on November 25. Reportedly, he is undergoing a mandatory quarantine.

WHO Gives Name To New Variant Of Covid-19: Omicron

The newly detected Covid-19 variant B.1.1529 has been designated as "omicron" by the World Health Organisation (WHO) on November 26. The cases of the new variant have rapidly been rising in South Africa. The WHO also termed it as a ''variant of concern'', saying it can spread at faster rates than other variants. ''Preliminary evidence suggests an increased risk of reinfection with this variant,'' added WHO.

Germany Imposes Travel Ban On South Africa Due To New Covid-19 Variant

The German Government set to impose a travel ban on South Africa, said German Health Minister Jens Spahn on November 26. The decision was taken due to the emergence of the new variant of Covid-19.
