The state government of Telangana has increased the reservation for Scheduled Tribe (ST) community by 4% in all educational institutions and government services. The new quota has come into immediate effect. The ST reservations in the state now stands at 10%, compared to the previous 6%. Reportedly, the move has been taken keeping in mind the 10% ST population in the state.
Tribal Affairs Minister Renuka Singh Saruta on March 15 said in the Parliament that around 1,205 Ashram schools have been funded for ensuring quality education to ST children. The minister said that dedicated Eklavya Model Residential Schools have empowered and attracted a large number of tribal students from the hinterland.
