Coimbatore Schools & Colleges To Introduce Anti-Drug Clubs
Following the increased threat of drug usage among students, the Coimbatore district government has directed that all schools and institutions establish anti-drug societies. The development of these clubs will be assisted by NCC, NSS, and scout teams. In addition, the district administration will establish a drug coordination cell to work with stakeholder agencies such as police, excise, and health to combat drug misuse.

Indian Women's A Team Win 7th Consecutive Match, Keep Sole Lead At 44th Chess Olympiad
The Indian women's A team defeated sixth seed Azerbaijan 2.5-1.5 on August 5 to preserve their solo lead in the women's section with 14 points at the 44th Chess Olympiad in Mamallapuram, Tamil Nadu. India B recovered against Cuba after losing to Armenia in the sixth round. India B was defeated by Greece in the women's division. Switzerland was beaten by the Indian Women's C team.

Kalamassery Bus Burning Case: 3 Accused Sent To Rigorous Imprisonment
In the 2005 Kalamassery bus bqurning case, three accused have been sentenced to rigorous imprisonment by a special NIA court in Kochi, on August 1. While two accused were sentenced to seven years rigorous imprisonment, one was sentenced to six years rigorous imprisonment. In the aforementioned case, a Tamil Nadu state government bus was set on fire in Kerala's Ernakulam, and the case was taken up by NIA in 2010.

TN Congress Chief Condemns Arrest Of 3 Involved In Spraying Ink On PM Modi's Poster
Tamil Nadu Congress president KS Alagiri condemned the arrest of three persons who were alleged for spraying ink on PM Modi's posters. He then questioned as to why the police did not take action against the BJP workers for pasting PM Modi's posters on the state government's publicity billboard. He said that the action was biased, and questioned the police if they are scared to take action against BJP functionaries.

Tamil Nadu Reports 4th Incident Of School Girl Suicide, Police Launches Investigation
In the past two weeks, the fourth incident of students committing suicide registered in Tamil Nadu. The latest incident of a girl, studying in class XI, who committed suicide in Sivakasi region. The police confirmed the incident on July 27, and said the girl ended her life at home but didn't recover any suicide notes, and launched an investigation. The rising number of school students, especially girls raised alarming concerns.

Class 12 Student Found Dead In Tamil Nadu's Cuddalore; Third Such Death In 1 Month
A class 12 student was found dead in Tamil Nadu's Cuddalore district, making it the third such death in Tamil Nadu, in a month. Police have registered a case of suspicious death, and an investigation is underway. According to Cuddalore SP S Sakthi Ganesan, the girl was going through some domestic issues at home. Earlier, two class 12 students from Kallakurichi and Thiruvalluvar died by suicide, in the same month.
