Bombay HC Halts Construction Of Uran Bypass Road, Considering Affect On Livelihood Of Fishermen

The 11-meter wide Uran Bypass Road in Uran Koliwada has been halted by Bombay High Court. Maharashtra government was strongly chastised by HC for neglecting to perform an adequate survey before embarking on the project, despite the fact that it would harm the livelihood of fishermen. The petition was brought by 134 fishermen who used the site for fishing. The petitioners claim the bypass will jeopardize their customary fishing rights.
