India's Account Removal Requests To Twitter Shot Up By 450% In 1 Year

India's request for information and account removal to Twitter leapfrogged to 451% and 450% respectively from Jan-June 2019 to Jan-June 2020. Reportedly, 2,613 such requests were made by the government after scrutinizing 6,346 accounts, albeit only 1% was complied by Twitter. Moreover, of the 5,877 information requests since 2012, majority were made in first-half of 2020 (44.5%). Besides, Facebook also received 35,560 requests for 57,294 accounts between January-June 2020. However, Facebook complied to 50% requests.
